DAY 1 - Arrival Day In Addis Ababa
Early morning domestic flight south to the wild Bale Mountains and start your first trek through the Web Valley. Pass rolling highlands, cross rivers, and stop at the dramatic Fincha Habera waterfall where two rivers collide.
Keep your camera ready, as this is one of the best spots to see the rare Ethiopian Wolf, soaring raptors, and bright endemic birds. By evening, you’ll reach Sodota campsite for coffee, dinner, and a night under a sky packed with stars.
DAY 2 - Into the Bale Mountains (18km hike)
Hike across Adelay Ridge with sweeping views of valleys and woodlands.
Spot eagles circling above, antelope grazing nearby, and maybe even hyenas or serval cats. Settle into the Adelay campsite for another unforgettable night in the heart of nature.
Day 3 – Ridge Walks & Wildlife (17km hike)
Enjoy a shorter morning hike through the northern woodlands, with chances to see Mountain Nyala and bushbuck, before returning to Dinsho.
From here, fly back to Addis Ababa for a hot shower, a cozy bed, and a night to recharge.
Day 4 – Farewell to the Highlands (6–8 km hike)
Domestic Flight east to the Afar region, stopping at Afdera’s shimmering salt lake before heading to Ertale Volcano.
Hike about 3 km up to the rim just in time for sunset and witness molten lava bubbling in the crater, one of the most dramatic sights on Earth.
We end the night by camping nearby under the stars.
Day 5 – Salt Lakes & Lava Glow
We return to the volcano at dawn for sunrise over the lava lake, then drive to the vast salt plains. Swim in Lake Karum’s otherworldly saltwater pool before watching a glowing sunset across Lake Assale.
Another magical night of open-air camping awaits.
Day 6 – Sunrise to Salt Plains
We start the morning exploring the alien-like world of Dallol, where neon-colored sulfur pools and bizarre salt mountains create one of the strangest landscapes on the planet.
After a picnic by salt caves, we drive on to Mekele to rest and recharge.
Day 7 – The Alien World of Dallol (2-3km walk)
We journey into Tigray to explore its legendary rock-hewn churches.
From Abraha We Atsbeha with its historic murals to the cliffside Maryam Korkor, each church reveals another layer of Ethiopia’s history and rewards us with epic mountain views.
Day 8 – Churches in the Sky (4–6 km walking/climbs)
Day 9 – Cliffside Finale (4km-6km hike)
We save the best for last: climbing to Abuna Yemata Guh, the church tucked into a sheer cliff face. Inside, we’ll see centuries-old frescoes, and outside, take in jaw-dropping panoramas.
After a final visit to Maryam Papaseit, we return to Mekele and fly back to Addis Ababa, carrying home not just photos, but shared memories for life.
Day 10 - Say Goodbye & See You Later
Wake up in the capital for one last time, sharing a farewell breakfast before saying goodbye to Ethiopia and the new friends who made this journey unforgettable.

Lake Abhe, on the Djibouti–Ethiopia border, is a shallow, salty lake fed by the Awash River. It’s famous for its towering limestone chimneys, steaming hot springs, and eerie desert landscape, often described as otherworldly. Huge flocks of flamingos gather at its shores, while Afar nomads live around the area. Its surreal setting has even been used as a backdrop for alien worlds in films.
First we will have a sunrise experience at Lake Abhe on top of one of the volcanic chimneys.
Next up, A hike to see the pink flamingoes.
Drive towards Assal we will stop at the Djibouti Grand Canyon.
Lake Assal, in Djibouti, is the lowest point in Africa and one of the saltiest lakes in the world (Saltier than dead sea). Surrounded by white salt flats, black lava fields, and turquoise water, it has an intense, otherworldly beauty. No fish live in its hypersaline waters, but Afar nomads have long mined its salt, once carried by camel caravans. Today, it’s both a striking natural wonder and a vital salt source
